Asian Babes

''Asian Babes'' is a British pornographic magazine, still publishing as of 2012,〔http://www.xxxmagstore.com/viewmagazine.aspx?titleid=603&title=Asian+Babes〕 which features depictions of women of South Asian, Korean, Chinese, Japanese, and Thai origin.〔Clare Brant, Yun Lee Too, "Rethinking sexual harassment", Pluto Press, 1994, ISBN 0-7453-0837-6, pp.88-92〕
The magazine was owned by Richard Desmond's Northern and Shell publishing company until its sale in 2004 as part of a package of 45 titles to Remnant Media for a reported £20 million (approximately US$39 million).
==Other publications==
In 1983, Northern and Shell obtained the licence to publish ''Penthouse'' in the United Kingdom which led to its development of a portfolio of adult titles, with ''Asian Babes'' being among them.〔Jane Arthurs, Jean Grimshaw, "Women's bodies: discipline and transgression", Continuum International Publishing Group, 1999, ISBN 0-304-33963-6, pp.191-192〕〔Clarissa Smith, "One for the girls!: the pleasures and practices of reading women's porn", ''European Communication Research and Education Association Series'', Intellect Books, 2007, ISBN 1-84150-164-6, p.57〕
In addition to the adult titles, Northern and Shell was also publishing the celebrity magazine OK! when Desmond purchased the Express Newspapers group in 2000. The Express group included the ''Daily Express'', its sister the ''Sunday Express'', and the ''Daily Star''.〔''The Economist'' vol.357 (2000) p.67〕 In 2004 he sought acquisition of additional "mainstream" publications — ''The Spectator'' and ''The Daily Telegraph'', along with its sister publication ''The Sunday Telegraph''. He was unsuccessful in his bid for ''The Telegraph'', losing out to David and Frederick Barclay, who had long sought to own the paper.
